Horse-race is getting more popularity in Korea, but injury and safety associated with horse-race is not well known. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and analyze the injury associated with horse race. From April 1998 to May 1999, data was gathered prospectively at the public horse-race facility in Gwacheon city. Jockey injury was 50%, but injury to others 50%. In the aspect of injury location, racing track was 47.1%, and horse room 26.5%. Type of injury was contusion (25%), sprain (25%), fracture (20.6%). Body parts injured were lower extremities (25.0%), spine (22.1%), upper extremities (22.1%). This data suggest that many related persons have possibilities of horse-race related injuries as well as jockey injuries and injury prevention and control will be needed according to the specific risk factors.
